What is the Survey Research Center (SRC)?
The SRC began operations in Fall 2001 with an assignment to provide research methodology assistance and data collection services to faculty and students. Emphasis was placed on facilitating interdisciplinary research and proposals for external funding
What does the SRC do? What services does it provide?
We provide various academic research services, including consultation on methodologies, planning and implementation of data collection via several different modes, and support for data analysis. We also help refine and select samples, help with question wording and survey design, hire and train data collectors and interviewers, and provide documentation for all phases of project implementation.
How can I volunteer to complete a survey?
Most of the surveys conducted by the Survey Research Center use a scientific sampling method that randomly recruits individuals to participate in projects. On occasion we may recruit respondents who meet specific criteria for research studies. Check back on our website occasionally as we will post these volunteer opportunities. If you are still interested in participating in research being conducted at Penn State University, you may check for opportunities on the University's Research website.
Does the SRC charge for its services? What are the charges?
The process of estimating a project's cost and the time we spend on that process is gratis. However, we do charge for our services. Charges are based on Penn State's policies for "charge out rates" as well as the actual costs of materials, postage, or other supplies used. We will work with you to develop a budget based on your project's needs.
I am not a Penn State faculty member or student. Would I still be able to acquire SRC services for my project?
Yes! We handle data collection and reporting for many non-Penn State clients.
Where is the SRC located?
We are located in The 330 Building at Penn State's Innovation Park. Visit our Contact Us page for more information.
Does the SRC employ students?
We do employ students in our Phone Division as part-time interviewers. We also employ students for clerical tasks (also part-time) in our Field and Mail Divisions. Visit our employment page for more information.
Who should I contact for more information?
If you would like more information about our services, or to begin a discussion about your particular project needs, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
