What is the Interactive Gaming Assessment?
The Interactive Gaming Assessment is an ongoing, legislated assessment of the impact of legalized online gambling in the state of Pennsylvania led by principal investigators Dr. Glenn Sterner and Dr. Joshua Rosenberger and project manager Gillian Russell. This assessment was legislated through the passing of Act 42 of 2017, that requires an annual assessment to be conducted to monitor the impacts of this legislation.
Each year the study team conducts a survey of a random sample of Pennsylvania adults about their gambling (including attitudes, behaviors, and problems). Surveys are conducted so that they may include a sample that is approximately representative of the adult population of Pennsylvania, including a full spectrum of engagement in gambling from those that do not gamble to those that gamble daily or nearly daily.
Through this survey they aim to assess gambling behaviors, gambling attitudes, and gambling problems in Pennsylvania. The study team uses these data to monitor trends in gambling behavior within the state and association between these behaviors and factors that may impact these behaviors.
